SOCIAL MOVEMENTS IN A WORLD OF BACKSLIDING DEMOCRACY<\/span><\/h5>\n
While it is fair to say that the COVID-19 pandemic brought much of the world to a near standstill, social movements have been very active during the crisis. To be sure, some movements have been trapped behind the government-mandated lockdowns and restrictions, unsure how to move forward. However, some movements found power in the pandemic as they could organize and voice their concerns on matters such as the assault on labor, diminishing rights, and the erosion of democracy.<\/span><\/div>\n
With this call for submissions, we primarily intend to explore how social movements articulate their struggles in pandemic conditions or otherwise. We are also interested in contributions that address the backsliding of democracy, particularly in Asia. Potential questions we wish to address include, but not limited to:<\/span><\/div>\n
